Uskudar district of Istanbul

Uskudar is located in the Asian side of Istanbul along the Bosphorus Shore. It is a charming and predominantly residential neighborhood of İstanbul. Although the district is densely populated, it has many greenery areas, including Çamlıca hills, Bosphorus seaside and lots of parks. Uskudar has a magical atmosphere and remarkable architecture. It has many historic buildings and historical mosques.

 

Location of Üsküdar

The district of Üsküdar is located in the Asian (Anatolian) side of İstanbul. It is bordered by Beykoz on the north, Ümraniye on the east, Ataşehir on the southeast, Kadıköy on the south and Bosphorus on the west. The districts of Beşiktaş, Beyoğlu, and Eminönü are located on the opposite shore of Üsküdar. Üsküdar is situated right across the district of Beşiktaş.

 

Places of Interest in Üsküdar

Üsküdar comprises lots of historical mosques such as Mihrimah Sultan Mosque which was designed in 1548 by the famous architect Mimar Sinan, Şemsi Paşa Mosque, which faces the sea, another Imperial Ottoman Mosque that was designed by the architect Sinan.

Most importantly, The Maiden’s Tower is located in Üsküdar, on a small island in the middle of the Bosphorus. It comes the first for must-see places of Istanbul. Its history traced back to the ancient Athens. It was built by the Greeks to control the movements of Persian ships. Both Byzantines and Ottomans used, rebuilt and modified the tower. This tower can be accessed by boat. There’s a restaurant in the tower.  Also, there are cafes around the tower which offer people stunning views of the tower.

Moreover, a walk on the Bosphorus coast offers unforgettable sunset views. As you walk along the coastline, you’ll see people fishing, eating, drinking coffee and socializing. Walking around the Maiden’s Tower in the sunset may be the most preferred activity in Üsküdar both for locals and tourists.

 

Transportation in Üsküdar

The Sea of Marmara is a means of transport for the residents of Üsküdar. While travelling to Üsküdar by the sea the Maiden’s Tower welcomes you first. Üsküdar is well connected with the European side of İstanbul. There’s a train tunnel called ”Marmaray” under the Bosphorus which connects Üsküdar with the European Side.  This is the fastest way to travel to the European side from Üsküdar. The station of Marmaray  is located in the square of Üsküdar. Also, there are regular ferries to Üsküdar from the districts of Beşiktas and Karaköy.
