Sile is a wonderful district of Istanbul in terms of its natural beauty and silence. The coastline of Sile is the second longest in the world. There are several nice coves and nice villages along the coastline of Sile.
Location of Sile
Sile is a pretty resort district on the Black Sea coast of Istanbul, on the Asian side, about 70 kilometers from the city center. Sile is bordered by the province of Kocaeli on the east and south, Istanbul districts of Pendik on the south, Cekmekoy on the southwest and Beykoz on the west. You can reach there by side roads passing from Polonezkoy or from the TEM Highway.
Places of Interest in Sile
Sile can be considered as a beach resort. It is a perfect place for people who want to live in a resort atmosphere. Sile can be seen as an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city life. There is a small sandy beach, a little harbor with fishing boats, forest full of trees and a relaxing atmosphere. In hot summer days, the district gets crowded especially at weekends because of day-trippers from the other districts of Istanbul who come to have a picnic or swim. Lots of people from Istanbul also have summer houses in Sile. However, if you are not professional, sometimes it can be dangerous to swim in Sile because of the high waves of the Black Sea.
Sile has many small pensions and hotels where people come to stay for the weekend to take a short holiday. The district has the biggest lighthouse of Turkey that became the symbol of Sile, which overlooks the Black Sea and has a stunning view. There are many cafes, restaurants and bars with amazing sea views, especially in the park around the lighthouse.
Isik University has a campus in Sile,which is one of the newest private universities of Turkey, just before entering the district.
The district of Sile is famous for its cloth. It is known with being very comfortable and most importantly, it never makes you sweat. Because of that, generally it is used for clothes. In Sile, there is a festival in every July for Sile cloth which makes it possible to see lots of things made from Sile cloth.
Transportation is Sile
There is public transportation in the district of Sile. There is a bus from Üsküdar, which is a district in the Anatolian side of Istanbul, to Sile. It is the easiest way to go to Sile by public transport. If you have your own transport, it takes nearly 45 minutes to go to Sile. You can go there passing through Umraniye or Beykoz.
