Kadikoy district of Istanbul

Kadikoy is a large and densely populated district of Istanbul. It is located in the Asian side of Istanbul, on the northern shore of the Marmara Sea.  Neighboring districts of Kadikoy are Atasehir to the northeast, Uskudar to the northwest and Maltepe to the southeast.

Kadikoy is one of the fastest growing districts in Istanbul which includes fashionable shops that are upmarket, fine dining and entertainment making it famous most particularly for wealthy local people. Recreation areas along the coastline add value to Kadikoy district, in particular around the yacht clubs and marinas.

Places of Interest in Kadikoy

Kadikoy is cultural center of the Anatolian side of Istanbul. It is a residential and commercial district consisting of theaters, cinemas, business centers, high-class health and educational institutions.

Kadikoy Market and Bahariye Street are one of the most popular places in Kadikoy. There are several places to go in Kadikoy market including famous cafes & restaurants, pubs, spice stores which are quite popular and worth visiting. Bagdat Avenue, which is Kadikoy’s main commercial street and one of the most trendy shopping and dining place, is full of luxury boutiques, cafes & restaurants, stores and businesses. Moda is another popular area in Kadikoy which also includes nice cafes and restaurants. Fenerbahce and Kalamis have a beautiful marina and various yacht clubs. Moreover, the stadium of Fenerbahce football club is located in this district of Istanbul.

The Süreyya Opera House, inspired by the glamorous theatres of Europe, was built in 1927 and lovingly restored in 2006–7. In additional to performances by the Turkish State Opera and Ballet, it also hosts classical-music concerts and other events.

Despite the fact that there are a lot of residential properties in the center of Kadıköy, there are still suburban streets, as well. The district of Kadikoy is home to many students as well as a small number of foreign residents. Along the coast, away from the center of Kadıköy, there are lots of expensive stores and the region becomes more upmarket especially in areas such as Fenerbahçe and Moda. In the inland parts of Kadikoy, housings are mostly expensive, particularly in areas such as İçerenköy and Kozyatağı. These areas are built around large avenues and tree-lined streets. Apartments in these areas have large gardens and parking lots.

Transportation in Kadikoy

Reaching Kadikoy is quite easy. There are many dolmush and public buses which operate to Kadikoy from other districts of Istanbul. It is also possible to access Kadikoy by ferries or Metrobus from the Asian side of Istanbul.
